RUNBRITAIN LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY September 12 ONLINE SCORING FOR ROAD RUNNERS
runbritain has announced the launch of its revolutionary new handicap scoring system designed to give road runners of all abilities the ability to benchmark their progress and compare their results across a range of distances and terrains.
The scoring system, which has been developed in conjunction with the team behind the McCain Power of 10 website, enables runners to claim a ranking score based on any single performance at 5,000, 10,000, half marathon and marathon distances, and allow them to make comparisons against fellow runners of varying degrees of ability. So I’m sure you will agree, it was an impressive end to the track and field season. Doesn’t that just go to show the potential that we have at the club? Well done everyone! That means that BRAT remain in Division 2 next year, along with Gloucester/Severn. Coventry and Halesowen are relegated to Div 3; and Rugby and Cheltenham are promoted to Div 1. We will be joined next year by Yate and Wolverhampton & Bilston (promoted from Div 3) and Mansfield and Stoke (relegated from Div 1).

We expected a good result and you gave us one. Despite a couple of last minute changes, thay had little effect on our overall time. No one had a disaster, although we should have been faster on the long legs which would have taken us ahead of our target team, a weakened Halesowen 30 seconds ahead. We finished 4th West Midlands team, predictably behind Birchfield, Coventry and Halesowen. With our team likely to become stronger over the next couple of years we are now easily within striking distance of good Midlands teams Telford, Staffs Moorlands and Cheltenham. Where were OWLS? A course PB for Martin Matthews and Anthony Gray. Thanks to Guy for stepping into his first long stage the night before and delivering a solid performance. Chris Horton said he would be a lot quicker and he was. Similarly Chris Lindesay spurred on by his new parental responsibilities finished a good last leg 20 seconds quicker than at the Midland. Matthew Bayliss looked good as ever, but just failed to get below his elusive 16 minutes. Mark Hirsch and Andy Kenchington equalled and just beat respectively their Midland time. Mark Ince and Ed Banks came into the team the week before their London Marathon aspirations. Unfortunately Ed was suffering with some part of his legs/body/other (delete as appropriate). Good luck both of you for tomorrow. Paddy struggled in the latter part of his leg, however, he did the business at The Midland Relays with the second fastest long. West Midland XC League Perry Park March 7
The West Midlands Young Athletes XC League 2009/10 season drew to a close on Sunday with another competitive event at Perry Park and although depleted numbers from BRAT(C) with the older boys missing there were still some good performances. Gus Illif led the way for the U11 Boys in the first race placing 5th on the day and securing overall 4th position for the series. Ollie Dighton also produced a fine performance finishing 19th and they were ably supported by a good BRAT turnout for the U11s with Jacob Gollings (67th), Jonny Freer (89th) and Joseph Reid (96th) and the team placing 7th on the day – well done lads! In the U13 Boys, Sam Dighton as sole BRAT representative ran strongly to finish 71st. The girls started well with Anne Kenchington continuing her current form to place 3rd on the day and finish 2nd overall for the series – good achievement seeing as it is based on all 5 races to score! Alice Collier also ran well to come in 17th place with Holiday Fisher sprint finishing (typically) to place 101st! It was good to see the older girls turning out too with Suzie Freer placing 71st in the U15’s and our U17’s Jess Saunders and Becky Cartledge placing 26th and 39th respectively. Hopefully next year we will see more of the current BRAT junior academy turning out for these races that are so well supported by the other local clubs.
Inter Counties XC Champs and World Trials Cofton Park Next weekend on Saturday 13th March 2010 our local Cofton Park hosts the top cross country race of the year - the Inter Counties Championships and World XC Trials. BRAT(C) have a number of athletes competing in the event and if you are looking for something to do that weekend or fancy shouting them on and a run round the park please come! Warwickshire County AA XC Champs January 9 The Warwickshire XC champs in the snow at Leamington once again proved to be a happy hunting ground for the club despite depleted numbers. Jack Gray won the U17 men’s race to take the Gold medal. Along with his team mates Tim Griffiths (4th) and Johnny Venables (5th) they also took the Gold medal in the team race. Paul Thompson won Gold in the U20 Men’s race. The senior men won Bronze in the team race behind Coventry Godiva (A and B teams) and Solihull. Martin Matthews 16th, Ed Banks 22nd, John Tune 26th, and Abayomi Adedimiji 43rd were the 4 scorers. Gareth Dixon just missed out in 47th place. The Veteran men’s team of Richard Gray 20th, Richard Carney 54th, Martin Ludford 79th, and Geoff Mann 90th took 13th place out of 21 teams in the Masters race. Great running all round and also great enthusiasm by the supporters; it was a memorable day. It was also notable for us having our own changing room, not quite up to Wembley standards perhaps, but having the Club name on the door made it a bit special. There were great results also in the womens races. The senior women won team Bronze (Lindsay Smith 8th, Helen Taylor 11th, and Vicky Rusius 15th). The B team also produced good results to finish in 6th position (Ellen Tune 18th, Cass Chisolm 24th, and Tona Walder 25th). The veteran Women just missed out on a medal in 4th position in the Masters race ( MargaretKenchington 6th, Chris Hirsch 13th, and Bea Pavlovic 23rd). In the U13 girls race Alice Collier 10th and Anne Kenchington 17th . Well done everyone, and thanks to Leamington Cycling & Athletics Club for hosting the event in such difficult circumstances. West Midland XC League Perry Barr December 06
After the solid performances shown by the senior male and female cross-country teams in the Birmingham League on Saturday, the juniors took their turn on Sunday at Sandwell Valley Park to produce some excellent results from U11 to U17 age groups. The juniors were led by Gus Iliff in the first U11 Boys race as he strode confidently home in 4th place continuing his consistent performances. The U13 Girls race produced another good performance by Anne Kenchington as she paced herself through a fast first lap with a great second half to come home strongly in second place. The day was completed successfully with an outstanding performance from the U17 Boys – Jack Gray in 1st place barely raised his heart rate, Tim Griffith followed him home in 4th with Jonny Venables in a close 5th place. Angus Stuart in 16th place completed the stirring U17 team performance - the BRAC/BRAT team were dominant winners of the team race on the day over a tough muddy and hilly course. The most pleasing part of this performance is that these U17 youngsters will be moving into the senior ranks within 2-3 years, they are all buoyed with enthusiasm and lots of talent – the future is looking bright! Belated congratulations to Martin Matthews who just missed out on a p.b. in New York earlier this month. Martin ran 2:29:30 missing his p.b. by just 16 seconds (set earlier in 2009 at London 2:29:14). Martin fell victim to some bad organisation with the start pens and his pen was also held back even after the gun had gone. Had it not been for this a p.b. would almost certainly have been in the bag. Add to this Martins performance of 2:31:17 in Berlin in September and it's not hard to see how he is currently ranked 48th on the UK list this year. Martin is targetting the Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa next year. Will he even get out of bed now for a mere 5k ?

We would like to thank the members who took part in the recent consultation exercise and gave time to comment on the proposal to merge which was much appreciated. The outcome of this consultation exercise for the merger with Birmingham Running & Triathlon Club was overwhelmingly supportive with just 13.6% against the proposal. The most debated issue was the name change to Birmingham Running, Athletics and Triathlon Club but again there was only 22.7% who wished to retain Rowheath within any new name. The Committee will be meeting on Saturday to start the process of the merger. The Triathlon club has also gone through a similar consultation process which is provisionally showing a strong agreement to merge. We will report back with more details as we progress. Thanks again for your support which ushers in an exciting new era for the club.

Paul Archer Takes Gold Again - Nuneaton 10m - 13th September 2009
After winning the Warwickshire County M55 title over 5km in our July 5km race, Paul took to the road again yesterday in the County 10 mile Championship at Nuneaton and struck gold once more taking the M55 title. Well done Paul.
Robin Hood Marathon - Nottingham - 13th September 2009
Three people braved the marathon yesterday at Nottingham. Over 1300 people finished the full marathon and over 6500 finished the half.
